What is skeletal dysplasia? It is disorder in which there is abnormal development of bone and cartilage.
There are four main types skeletal dysplasia
Achondrodysplasia
Achondrodysgenesis
Osteogenesis imperfecta
Thanotropic dysplasia
Achondroplasia is the most common non-lethal dysplasia.
Thanotropic dysplasia is most common lethal dysplasia.
Thanotropic is a Greek term meaning "death bringing"
Terms related to skeletal dysplasia
Rhizomelia-shortening of proximal bones (femur/humerus)
Mesomelia-shortening of middle segment (radius/ulna)
Acromelia-Shortening of distal bones (metacarpals, phalanges)
Micromelia-Shortening of whole limb
